shadow tracing

shadow tracing

There’s something about the early morning light shooting through a window that gets me wanting to either take shadow photos (and depending on the sun and cloud coverage you can get a soft light or sharper contrast image)…

… or taping paper on the wall for shadow tracing.

If you don’t have a window and wall that catches direct natural light you can use a lamp instead. Use a pencil to do the tracing. Depending on how still your child sits, you’ll have some wonky lines you might want to erase. Or just keep them and have some giggles when you’re done. You can go over the tracing after in a black marker and leave it at that. Your child can add eyes and hair, colour it in with paint or crayons or cut it out. Your children might prefer to do the tracing, too. Have fun with it – no rules.
