I decided to make these sweethearts for my kids last year. It is an easy craft but I’m always reminded as I craft, that I am not a professional ‘crafter’, as it seems to take me a bit longer than imagined. All you need is wool felt, wool or cotton stuffing (or cotton balls?) and embroidery floss and a needle. I have bought wool felt from a variety of places but I love anything that makes my life easier so I prefer to order them online. Bear Dance Crafts has great colours and I’ve always been happy with what I see on my monitor vs what I receive. (They also have a variety of other craft supplies.) I used different felt colours for the back sides of the hearts, so mix and match as you like. This would also be a great craft to do with the kids.
Trace out a heart on paper, bristol or cardboard then cut it out. Trace the heart on your wool felt pieces and start stitching! I used blanket stitch along the edges. For the words, I used back stitch. If you need any further instruction simply search the stitch name and you’ll find lots of post and videos.
You’ll want to stitch the heart, leaving about an inch gap at the end so you can add the stuffing. Then finish the stitch and secure a knot.
I feel like I’m forgetting something, but it really is that simple. Have fun!
